Online ethical shoppers smash sales records
A GATESHEAD based ethical online trader recorded a 32% surge in profits 24 hours before the ‘Cyber Monday’ rush.
Over the weekend, UK shoppers spent a massive £6bn in a bid to secure gifts for their loved ones in time for Christmas.
Vic Morgan, Director of Ethicalsuperstore.com, said people have opted to purchase their festive goods from the comfort of their own home rather than visiting the high streets this winter.
He said: “We tend to experience a spike in sales at the start of December because shoppers have their November pay packet in their pockets and are keen to ensure they have their gifts well in time for Christmas.
“This year was no different and has offered further proof that more and more people are making more purchases online than ever before.”
Sales rose to £40,000 on the day before Cyber Monday, making it Ethicalsuperstore.com’s busiest day this year.
The firm now predicts orders will remain brisk until around December 21th.
Mr Morgan added: “An increasing number of consumers are determined to enjoy a green Christmas.
“Understanding ethical consumerism is to recognise that a product’s worth can’t merely be quantified by its price, but rather the cost to humanity or the environment which shaped its journey to the retail shelves.”
