Report hails Tall Ships
THE Tall Ships Races in Hartlepool generated £26.5m for the economy, according to a new report.
The independent report was carried out to calculate the economic impact of the Tall Ships event in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas, following the five-day spectacle last August.
The views of 1,200 people were sought including, visitors, local businesses, traders and exhibitors.
Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond, who chairs the Council’s Cabinet, said: “Overall, I think this is a very positive report and proves that we have delivered on all of our key objectives.
“As a town we have to have ambition and be bold. The event attracted almost one million visitors to Hartlepool from around the globe and this report shows that three quarters will be visiting the town again in the future.”
The report highlighted that each visitor spent an average of £30.59.
It also reported that the return on the £3.9m investment represents “excellent value for money.”
Gwyn Brown, Commercial Director of Sail Training International, who organised the event, added: “We’ve received some wonderful feedback from captains and crew members around the world and clearly they thoroughly enjoyed their time in Hartlepool.
“Everyone received a great welcome in Hartlepool and left with a positive impression of the town and the surrounding area.”
