Bank of England Governor comes to Newcastle
MERVYN KING, the Governor of the Bank of England, will give a keynote speech at a business dinner at the Civic Centre early next year.
The Governor delivers a limited number of public speeches during a year, which give an opportunity for businesses to hear from him.
Born in 1948, he studied at King’s College, Cambridge, and Harvard (as a Kennedy Scholar) and taught at Cambridge and Birmingham universities before spells as a visiting professor at both Harvard University and the MIT.
From October 1984 he was Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics where he founded the Financial Markets Group.
He was previously Deputy Governor from 1998 to 2003 and Chief Economist and Executive Director of the Bank of England from 1991.
Mr King is also Chairman of the Monetary Policy Committee.
