Canadian firm comes to the region’s software capital

ONE of Canada’s fastest-growing software companies has set up its first overseas office in the North East, which will create up to 10 jobs.

Quebec-based Namtek Consulting services is taking advantage of a new scheme launched by Sunderland Software City, which offers overseas software companies three months of local sales support to help get UK operations up and running.

Founded in 2000, Namtek develops software, which reduces operational costs and increases efficiency for small and medium size companies producing, importing or exporting everything from uniforms to egg cartons.

Bernie Callaghan, Chief Executive Officer of Sunderland Software City, said: “Namtek are one of the most respected software firms in North America, and we’re delighted to be able to support their entrance into the UK market.

“Part of Sunderland Software City’s work is showcase the first rate workforce and infrastructure the North East offers foreign companies and to demonstrate to them the merits of opening a base here, which in turn creates new jobs here in the North East”.

The firm has also been supported by Sunderland Software City’s Intelligence Service, which has given the company an in-depth overview of the overall market for their services in both the UK and Europe.

Business Development Executive Eleni Tsoumpeli has been recruited to sell Namtek’s services in the UK and to establish relationships with potential customers in Britain as the company investigates a long-term presence in the region.

Pierre Namoud, Chief Executive of Namtek, added: “We’d been looking to establish a European presence for some time and there are many compelling reasons to base it in North East England - not least through the support offered by Sunderland Software City.”
