A CASINO in Newcastle is celebrating five years in the city with a £2 million increase in turnover and the creation of 30 jobs.
Aspers at The Gate has rapidly become one of the region’s most popular entertainment venues, ranking as the busiest casino outside of London.
Around 230 people currently work at the 45,000 sq ft venue, which brings in sales of £14 million annually.
Richard Smith, General Manager of Aspers at The Gate, said: “It’s great to be entering our sixth year on a high, with Newcastle once again leading the growth of the entire Aspers Group.
“We’re very proud of our position at the heart of the party scene in this great city and we have ambitions to expand further in the coming year.”
The last year has seen the introduction of new games, such as Dice and Punto Banco, as well as the expansion of Aspers poker room, which is now one of the largest in the UK with 200 seats.
Over the next year, the company will also be looking to take the successful Aspers format into London for the first time as it bids for a new casino licence in Newham, close to the Olympic Park.
