Niall Quinn set to share secrets of success

North East sporting hero Niall Quinn MBE is set to share the secrets that have supported his successful move from football pitch to boardroom with business people across the region.

The former player and now chairman of Sunderland Football Club will give an insight to members and guests of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum at a lunchtime event at the Stadium of Light on February 11.

Regional entrepreneur and Chairman of One North East, Paul Callaghan will be on cue to give an interactive questions and answers session with the former Black Cats striker.

Carole Beverley, Chief Executive of the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, said: “It’s the tips, trials and triumphs of Niall’s transformation from player to chairman which our celebrated facilitator and Forum board member Paul Callaghan will be looking to draw out during an interactive and informal Q&A session.”

Universally applauded for his charity work in both Sunderland and Ireland, where he was the country’s highest international goal-scorer, Quinn was the first player to donate the proceeds of his testimonial match to charity, a sum of more than £1m.

In 2006 he led an Irish consortium in taking over the club.

He added:“ Forthright and passionate about the North East economy and a key figure in the region’s business scene, Niall is a man who doesn’t mince his words.

“ There will be anecdotes aplenty from his playing days, the consortium for SAFC, his managerial career and the lessons he’s learned along the way.“
