A bit of Calm shapes the next generation

A North East Digital company is helping to shape the minds of 107 young creative people in Teesside in a bid to inspire the next generation of brand and digital experts.

Web design and development agency Calm Digital, which is based in the award-winning Boho One, in Middlesbrough, is working with two schools and a community initiative to run enterprise and creative projects to help motivate and educate young people in the region.

Bianca Robinson, project director at Calm Digital, has been working closely with Huntcliff School, in Saltburn, to run a number of workshops and provide career advice.

The early success of her work with the 47 secondary school pupils, who are aged between 14-and-16 years old, has led to a similar role in Skelton Primary School to direct an enterprise project with a group of 60 children.

Calm Digital has also joined forces with a local creative arts company, Club Creative, to work with three young carers on behalf of The Junction, an initiative established to support carers aged between 5-and-18 years old in Redcar.

“We are incredibly passionate about working with young people as we feel it is important to inspire them and broaden their expectations of what they can achieve,” said Miss Robinson.

“We are in a very privileged position of being able to pass on our knowledge and also provide the children with first-hand experience of creating their own enterprise or business.

“Hopefully this is something that will not only help the young people from an academic perspective but also lead them into the creative industry in the future.”

The work with the two schools is centralised around the curriculum but is more in-depth and interactive to ensure the pupils show the thinking process, including objectives and target audience.
