TTE reports surge in apprenticeship interest
The TTE Technical Training Group has reported a growing interest in apprenticeships among young people and employers having already generated 170 new posts.
During the recent Apprenticeship Week, the Middlesbrough-based training organisation welcomed nearly 300 visitors at its open days and events.
TTE apprentices also exhibited at the Tees Valley Apprenticeship Programme (TVAP) event and took part in community activities.
Open days and evenings were held through the week, with special events aimed at attracting new sponsor companies and apprenticeship recruitment for September 2011.
These gave visitors the chance to tour TTE’s training facilities at South Bank and meet its team of specialist training staff.
One specialist event was “Ladies Day”, which promoted further career opportunities for female learners. Planned and hosted by the female forum and supported by TTE female staff, 27 girls from three schools were able to meet vocational career role models and learn about opportunities in engineering, science, manufacturing and the process and chemical sectors.
Apprentices made practical presentations, while TTE staff were available to respond to enquiries regarding training opportunities.
TTE has become the most popular destination in the North East for students taking apprenticeships for the engineering, science, process, manufacturing and chemical industries.
It recruited a record 170 apprentices in 2010 to meet the demands from industry for skilled and motivated technicians.
