Entrepreneur hits the road with new firm

A NEW firm is aiming to help North East truckers drive safely over the ever-changing legal terrain of the transport industry, while also boosting their job satisfaction.

After serving at the helm of two successful transport businesses, entrepreneur Robin Raine is hoping to capitalise on a gap in the market for a training service with up-to-date knowledge of changes in legislation within the heavily regulated industry.

His new Darlington-based company, Durham Tees Valley Training (DTVT), will offer official Driver Certificate of Professional Competence training as well as general transport driver training.

Other services will include health and safety training, courses on the use of digital tachograph systems – which record driver behaviour and vehicle activity – and Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving (SAFED) courses.

The company also carries out part of its training from a mobile classroom which means the training can be brought to its student’s place of work.

Mr Raine has spent 35 years working within the transport sector and previously ran his own transport company and a commercial vehicle dealership.

Having witnessed at close hand the many challenges experienced by businesses in the sector, he will strive to do far more for his clients than merely meet the basic requirements of obligatory driving courses.

DTVT will also focus on the continual development of company workforces, help transport bosses cut costs and maximise profits and improve the productivity and morale among driving staff.

Mr Raine said: “I was constantly hearing about the difficulties transport companies were having receiving the right information regarding legislation changes and everyone had a different take on it, so I considered from my background and experience I would make sure the correct legislative information was sourced and transmitted correctly.
