Pharmaceutical firm unveils expansion
A Northumberland pharmaceutical manufacturer has announced a major £500,000 investment, which will allow it to increase capacity and handle demand from the US.
SCM Pharma, which specialises in the manufacturing of sterile drug products, has seen facility modifications which include the addition of another dedicated suite to fill highly potent products.
The move follows increased demand for potent products from clients wanting innovative drug products through clinical trials and those that require low volume regular market supply of niche licensed products.
Dianne Sharpe, managing director at SCM Pharma, said: “As the business has developed and grown over the past few years, we have always tried to adapt to our clients’ changing and increasing product manufacturing requirements.
“We have therefore invested heavily into modifying the facility to ensure we can efficiently deal with a range of different potent projects including small pilot scale, clinical trial progression and the commercial supply of licensed medicines.”
The firm is set to use one of the worlds largest drug manufacturing exhibitions in New York (Interphex) next month as the platform to showcase its enhanced capability to the U.S.
She added: “It’s a very exciting time for the business as we now have more flexibility and superior capability to handle multiple productions at any one time.
“We are looking forward to flying the flag for the region’s manufacturing sector in New York as we believe our expanded capacity will no doubt appeal to potential customers at Interphex.”
