Poll results: Time for Ashley to cash in his chips?
If Mike Ashley took any notice of the business-savvy bdaily readership he’d already be packing his Everything Must Go signs into his helicopter before flying off into the sunset.
Amid newspaper rumours of an Indian takeover deal for Newcastle United, we asked readers if they thought the sportswear tycoon should cut his losses and get out of football.
Ashley bought Newcastle for £134m – reportedly pumping another £100m into the club in recent years – and has since tried to flog it for £400m and later £100m.
According to the rumour mill, also known as the Sunday Mirror, Anil Ambani, head of the large Reliance ADA Group and one of Asia’s richest businessmen, is interested in buying the club for around £200m after considering the idea in 2008 before Newcastle were relegated.
And, should Ashley be tempted to take the offer, he would have almost unanimous support from the bdaily readers, with 91.1% saying he would be wise to get off the football bandwagon.
It remains to be seen whether he has any intention to sell however.
