Major Tyneside bus contract goes ahead
Bus manufacturer Optare has reportedly secured a contract valued at more than £2.2m to supply 20 Versa buses to Go Ahead North East.
They will be used for the Quaylink services, which connect major bus, Metro and rail stations with attractions on both banks of the River Tyne.
This is the latest in a number of orders for the company.
Last week it won a contract valued at £3.6m to supply 20 buses to bus operator Rotala.
That order included 15 Versa Hybrid buses, acquired with a contribution of £1.7m from the government’s Green Bus Fund.
Last month it secured orders worth £7.6m from Arriva for 69 single and double-deck buses for delivery during 2011.
That deal included 16 Visionaire open-top double-deckers for use by The Original Tour of London sightseeing tours.
