Major voluntary project launched
A new project to support the North East’s voluntary and community sector (VCS) was launched this week.
SkillsBridge has been set up by North East Enterprise Bond (NEEB) and will match up experts from the private and public sectors with VCS organisations, helping them to build bespoke, sustainable skills at a time when practical and financial support from elsewhere is in short supply.
The five year programme will be funded by a charitable bond with investments from a wide range of businesses, public sector bodies, charitable trusts and individuals.
SkillsBridge was launched at a breakfast briefing today in the offices of Eversheds in Newcastle. SkillsBridge chief executive Andrew White outlined how SkillsBridge will work, providing details of how VCS organisations can register and apply for support.
He also explained how SkillsBridge can play an important role in corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes for private and public sector organisations, which he encouraged to get involved.
The fully subscribed event also gave the guests an opportunity to network and discuss ways in which they might be able to work together.
He said: “We were delighted with the turnout this morning and with the response that the SkillsBridge project received. We will now set about the task of recruiting organisations to be part of this project.”
