Poker-faced professionals launch new event

Tired of corporate social events with hidden agendas, two young professionals have come together to create a new event which will see networkers gamble with nothing to lose, and everything to gain.

The Pros and Cons Poker event put professionals from a wide range of sectors around the poker table for the chance to have fun, relax and make new contacts.

Representatives from some of the North East’s most successful companies and up-and-coming SMEs – as well as entrepreneurs – came together, armed with their best poker faces and as much luck as they could muster.

Players at the event, which took place at Aspers at The Gate in Newcastle earlier this month, did not need any experience of poker.

Nor did they need to gamble their own money, since funds for the games were covered by headline sponsor Aegis IT – the Newcastle-based supplier of technical consultancy services.

The event was organised by Matthew Flinders – head of marketing at accountancy and business advisory group RMT – and Mark Green, partner with law firm Short Richardson & Forth.

Mark said: “I am proud to be involved in founding this exciting new networking event. Feedback from friends and colleagues suggested that Newcastle needed a fun networking event where people could relax, meet fellow professionals and make new contacts – hence the name ‘Pros and Cons Poker’.

“Poker is a very popular pastime and the fact that people can play for prizes donated by our sponsors rather than gamble their own money make it ideal for networking.

“The aim is that people can meet, have fun and ultimately do more business with each other. After the success of the first event it will now be repeated every 2 months with the next event taking place on the 28th July at Aspers Casino in Newcastle.”
