Eco-preneur urges businesses to ‘go green’
A local ‘eco-preneur’ has launched a book to show businesses the best ways for, them to ‘go green’.
Environment and sustainability consultant Gareth Kane decided to write his latest book “The Green Executive”, after realising how few companies knew how to build good environmental practices into their business.
Kane has described the book as “a practical how-to guide for businesses to find out what to do and what not to do to turn their business green”, and uses real life examples of businesses successfully developing their eco-credentials.
Companies involved in the project ranged from national corporations, to law firms and small paint companies, but what they all had in common is their united desire to develop their business into one that was more respectful of the environment.
At the launch of the book at Newcastle University’s Business School on Tuesday, Gareth was keen to point out that sustainability has become a key issue in commerce, stating
“If you aren’t green, you can’t compete.”
He also outlined the marketing possibilities that going green can offer a business. Several of the individuals interviewed for “The Green Executive” found that contracts could be won or lost on the basis of their ecological policy and even though the initial costs of implementing these measures could be high, they often paid dividends.
