P&O contract awarded to local firm
A local ship conversion company has won a contract with P&O Maritime Services to carry out refurbishments on their European Supporter vessel.
A&P Tyne will be working on the ship, which is equipped to install power cables for a wide variety of offshore industries, including renewables, telecommunications and the oil and gas sectors.
A&P Tyne have manufactured and installed a 7 metre long, abrasion resistant chute to lower cables onto the seabed, as well as completing a major overhaul of generators and modifications to the steelwork.
This work will now allow the European Supporter to accommodate 5000 tons of power cable, using a newly installed power cable loading arm.
Paul Baker, A&P Tyne project manager said: “The European Supporter is fairly unique, there are only certain vessels around the world capable of doing the work she is equipped to do.
“There are a lot of companies now converting vessels for multiple roles to met the needs of the renewable energy sector and we can turn our hand to any fabrication work.”
