The University of Sunderland is set to honour Olympic legend Seb Coe for his contribution to the 2012 London Olympics bid.
Lord Coe, who is a double Olympic champion and 12-time record holder is due to receive an honorary doctorate from the university alongside thousands of students at the graduation awards ceremonies, which will be held at the Stadium of Light next month.
Figures from the worlds of TV, literature and business are also being honoured, including Sunderland-born TV presenter and architect George Clarke, Wire in the Blood author Val McDermid and entrepreneur and musician Paul Campbell.
University Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Fidler said: “Our honoraries have all made highly significant contributions within their fields and will inspire out graduates as they celebrate their academic success and embark on their careers.
“We look forward to welcoming them and are proud to pay tribute to them.”
