Accountancy firm benefits from apprenticeship scheme
A Newcastle based accountancy firm has joined the ranks of local businesses recruiting apprentices by taking on four as accounting technicians.
Unw were approached by the North East Chamber of Commerce with a view to train an apprentice, but the company were so impressed with the standard of candidates, they decided to take on four.
Steve Lant, tax partner at unw said “In the past we have recruited graduates into training positions, however the firm has grown significantly in the last few years and that growth has emabled up to include apprentices as part of our team.”
The four apprentices are currently working towards their AAT Level 2 accountancy qualifications, spending one day a week at a training centre, and the rest of their time learning on the job.
Lant added: “Unw has a strong learning culture so they are provided with a variety of support, and thanks to their attitude and effort they have fitted into the business very well.”
Now, after the success of the current apprentices, unw are looking to recruit more into the IT and administrative areas of the business.
