Pharmaceutical plant reopens on Teesside

A pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Teesside is set to reopen after it was purchased by a Norwegian drugs giant.

Due to the consolidated efforts of former site manager Peter Trickett and NEPIC to attract new owners, TryggPharma eventually decided to invest in the site.

The unit was acquired for around £14million and is hoped to reopen within 12 months, employing around 25 personnel.

The unit, which was owned by Lunbeck Pharmaceuticals until it closed in 2008, houses modern technology and equipment that is a good match for the omega-3 products TryggPharma specialises in.

Aaron Kramer CEO of TryggPharma said: “At the moment we are seeing double digit growth in omega-3 dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals which are used as health products in the treatment of several diseases.

“In addition to getting production up and running as soon as we can, there is commitment to invest and into the future on Teesside. This of course means even more local jobs at the Teesside Unit.”

Stan Higgins CEO of NEPIC has welcomed TryggPharma to the region. He added: “Its great for Teesside and for the Pharmaceutical sector in particular to see another of our units back into operation.

“We have worked hard around the world to keep the profile of this facility in the forefront of potential purchasers minds. It has been a difficult sell as there was no business being left with the plant but it sounds like a perfect fit for the products of TryggPharma.”
