Extra jobs added at £10m Sunderland development
Developers working on a multi-million pound scheme to rejuvenate a run-down area of Sunderland have reported that the site will offer more jobs than previously anticipated.
Verum Victum Ltd the company behind the scheme have announced that 250 jobs will be created at the site at North Hylton Road, rather than the 150 which were initially anticipated.
The former Jennings Motor Group site will house a new local centre, including supermarkets, retail units and offices and will rejuvenate the area, which has long been earmarked for improvement by the council.
A spokesman for Verum Victum said: “We anticipate that the scheme will create a significant number of jobs for local residents in a variety of flexible full and part time positions.
’The scheme represents a major private investment at a time of challenging economic conditions.“
Sunderland City Council identified the need for a local centre in the North Hylton area back in 1998, and the realisation of the plans will create a vibrant hub for this area of the city.
A representative from the Council added: “We have been delighted by the strong support we’ve received from many people who see the investment, regeneration and job benefits that the proposal will deliver.”
