NewcastleGateshead ‘poked’ by digital overhaul

The North East’s tourism industry is moving into the digital age through a new strategy to transform the way visitors access information about the area.

NewcastleGateshead Initiative has recently launched a state-of-the-art Facebook page that allows users to upload their own photographs and recommendations for things to do in the region. The page will also provide links to hotels, restaurants and events in the area, using the main website www.NewcastleGateshead.com.

It is hoped that the new site will become an invaluable resource, and will enhance the overall visitor experience to the region.

Sarah Stewart, chief executive at NewcastleGateshead Initiative said: “The Facebook page is an exciting development that allows users to easily navigate and explore information about the depth and breadth of activities, events and attractions on offer across Newcastle Gateshead.”

NewcastleGateshead have already shown a commitment to improving their digital credentials. They are the first tourism organisation in the UK to have their own dedicated iPhone app, which recently went live alongside their dedicated Twitter feed - @altweet_pet and their newly-revamped website.

Sarah added: “The aim of these digital tools is to create a community, a centre for discussion and conversation about NewcastleGateshead. The Facebook page in particular is open to user generated content and we’d encourage people to share videos, photos and comments and take an active role in page activity.”
