Bad training costs government £275 million
The Civil Service wastes £275 million annually on ineffectual training courses, a process that has been described as “the tip of the iceberg of Britain’s culture of poorly targeted staff development.”
The National Audit Office has published this figure after speaking to staff about the training they have received over the past year. Under half of those questioned felt the training helped them to do their job more efficiently.
Kevin Beales, Managing Director of North east based online assessment specialists The Test Factory said: “Organisations in both the public and private sector are aware that to get the very best out of the staff they need to offer them regular personal development opportunities but far too often they give far too little thought to what their staff’s individual needs are and how best to meet them.”
By undertaking proper analysis assessments before arranging training, this problem could be prevented, and could allow managers to make informed decisions about where training is really needed.
Kevin added: “Identifying training needs can produce personalised learning plans that will enable individuals to identify areas for improvement and signpost resources to aid their own development.”
