China Networking Club provides export links to region
The newly formed China Networking Club is set to provide a new opportunity for businesses in the region to better understand and target the opportunities the country offers.
UKTI set up the club to provide a forum for businesses to share their own experiences and best practices when doing business in China. It will also give information about current international legislation and obligations, as well as available funding and support.
After the event, Sonya Roe UKTI’s China Business development executive said: “China is the great economic success story of the past 30 years and in the last year the North East exported £412m worth of goods and services to China and Hong Kong.
“But although it offers plenty of potential, it’s no ordinary market and businesses constantly need to keep up with the speed and depth of change and development in this large and complex market.
The even received much positive feedback from attendees who see the club as a valuable network in the North East.
Guest speakers at the event include former Trade Minister Sir Richard Needham, who is highly experienced in doing business with China as the independent directors for international and commercial affairs at Dyson.
Alistair Newton, Project Manager at Alex Smiles Ltd, also spoke at the event. Earlier this year the Sunderland Company took part in a Market Visit to China and Hong Kong, organized by UKTI.
He said: “During the Market Visit, we found it incredibly supportive to be with other companies from the region and talk about our experiences and how we were tackling the different challenges that you invariably come up against when doing business in China.
“Intelligence is so important, and on the Market Visit there was a real buzz among the group with each of us constantly sharing the new insights we were gaining every day we were there. The new China Networking Club will provide a useful way for that to continue and for us all to keep in touch with what’s going on in this huge market.”
