New housing plans for Teesside
The landscape of Teesside is set for an overhaul after council discussions with property developers.
Stockton Borough Council is currently identifying land where 2,800 new homes could be built over the next 15 years, and during this consultation period land owners and developers are to be given the opportunity to put forward their sites for consideration for housing land.
During the council’s Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment, they discovered that between 2021 until 2026 there are not enough sites to meet Stockton’s housing requirements. The council are now trying to find ways around the shortfall.
Andrew Moss, Associate and Chartered Town Planner at Ward Hadaway said: “This is a real opportunity for land owners and developers to make their views known on the development in the Stockton area.”
Previous attempts to encourage building in the area have failed because many of the sites previously earmarked for development required public investment, which has been drastically reduced.
He added: “It is pleasing to see tua6 the council has responded positively to the issue and is now seeing to rectify its shortfall in a planned and co-ordinated way.”
