£82m in Olympic Contracts for the North East
Despite not being at the centre of the Olympic action next year, many businesses in the North East still have a reason to be excited – an £82 million pound reason to be precise.
Scores of firms in the region have been awarded Olympic contracts from a wide range of sectors, thanks to Compete North East. The procurement support service has helped businesses from construction, retail, transport, law and clothing supply win contracts for the Games since 2009.
Now businesses from all sizes will help to showcase the best services the region and the UK has to offer.
Newcastle-based Hart Doors have supplied the Olympic Stadium with the roller shutters
that the world’s sporting elite will walk through a year today.
Alan Richardson, a former athlete and now contracts manager with Hart Doors, said: “The whole team have been working hard to meet the Olympic order. The doors have now been installed at the Olympic site and we’ve delivered on time, on budget.
“It’s a great event to be a part of. We’re proud of our involvement and of our roots here in the North East.”
Paul Taylor, head of business engagement for Compete North East, said: “I’m delighted that so many firms have benefited from the London Olympics, many with help provided by Compete North East.
“With exactly a year to go they will all be working hard to fulfill orders in time for the main event. These orders have had a significant impact on the businesses involved and a positive impact on the wider region.”
