bdaily interviews Mark Wilson from The Test Factory

Mark Wilson professes to know little about computers, but his knowledge and experience in sales and marketing undoubtedly make him the best candidate for the position of head of Products at the Test Factory.

In the course of his job, Mark works with businesses looking for bespoke testing solutions for their staff. The breadth of tests is enormous, from accounting and anaesthetists’ exams, to IT testing equipment.

“In the course of my role, I identify industries to which I can sell products to,” Mark explained, “Then I work with experts to try and ensure we produce the best possible solution for our customers”.

Mark knows only too well the benefits of the Test Factory – his own business has also benefitted from it.

Prior to working at the company, Mark worked in finance in for seven years: “ It was too boring in the end - too much maths“, he said. After this he decided on a complete change, and moved back up North to set up on his own doing something completely different.

After some thought, he decided to set up a head office for hair and beauty salons: “Lots of hairdressers don’t know much about marketing, training or necessary legal preparations.

“By setting up the company it means that hair salons can stay independent from bigger chains, but can also receive the right help and advice for their business.”

In the course of his business, Mark approached the Test Factory to provide a test for hairdressers working in the salons he oversaw. The Managing Director of the company mentioned that they were looking to develop a new area of the company creating products – and after witnessing his management and sales skills in his own business, asked him to come aboard.

Now, the company is moving from strength to strength, and is already considering international markets:

“ The company is also looking to move internationally, and has recently opened an office in Chicago. We are also looking to produce tests in foreign languages, so it’s a really exciting time for the company.“
