A Broken PC Can Save a Charity
Sunderland based IT company are appealing for people to come forward with their broken computer hardware and take part in a 24 hour Tech-a-thon to help raise money and save a charity from closure.
SR1 IT Solutions are hosting the hardware repair endurance event to raise funds to help Donna Claire respite home based in Seaburn. The Sunderland based charity is under threat as it faces major cuts and even possible closure.
SR1 IT are opening their doors to the public to bring forward any broken hardware, from TV remotes to PCs that may be out of use, have a virus or corrupted software or simply gathering dust and to participate in this fund raising effort.
Each piece of hardware can be entered in to the event for £30 (plus cost of parts) to be assessed and repaired by SR1 IT. Alternatively, they can refurbish any unwanted hardware and sell on with the profit going towards helping the charity.
SR1 IT Director, Adrian McCarroll, 21, explained: “Its a great opportunity for people to have their broken hardware and software issues assessed and repaired at a low cost, while helping to save a wonderful charity like Donna Claire in the process.”

Donna Claire respite home co-founder, Geraldine Plunkett said: “Here at Donna Claire we love to open our doors and provide a holiday home for people with disabilities. The friendships and memories that we build with our guests are priceless. It is wonderful that SR1 are helping raise funds to keep our doors open and to let us continue spreading all the happiness we can.”
The 24 hour IT repair endurance event will be taking place on 9 September 2011, venue for the event is to be confirmed and all hardware has to be dropped off to the Software Hatchery on St Peters university campus.
