SSI to begin recruiting in Redcar

Thai steelmaker SSI is expected to begin accepting applications for the 1000 jobs it has created at the former Corus steel plant in Redcar.

The BBC reports that firm bought the plant after a contract fell through in February 2010, causing the loss of 1500 jobs.

The blast furnace will be fired up before the end of the year, and in the meanwhile the firm is accepting applications for a range of jobs.

The firm has created a dedicated HR team at the site, and staff from the JobCentre scheme will be based at Steel House at the site. Interviews are expected to begin next month.

A spokesman for the plant said: “ This is a very exciting time for us at SSI as we make an important step towards the start up of steel making operations.“
