Northumberland named as top tourist destination
Its official - -Northumberland is one of the most loved holiday destinations in England according to a recent survey.
The county, alongside well-established destinations including Cornwall and the Peak District, was voted into the top tier of areas visitors most liked, after scoring highly for satisfaction and loyalty.
Visitors were especially appreciative of the beautiful countryside and leisure pursuits offered in Northumberland, as well as the variety of countryside options, from the wild coastline to the rugged national parks.
Chief Executive of Northumberland Tourism Giles Ingram has expressed his delight at the figures published by VisitEngland: “It goes to prove that the energy so many have put into improving our pubs, restaurants and town centres is paying off, with initiatives like our Made in Northumberland and Market Town Welcomes programmes having a real impact.
“Our challenge now is to keep those visitor scores rising in the years ahead.”
Bed and Breakfasts and Guest Houses also rated highly, especially those with 4 and 5 star ratings. A number of pubs were also praised, including St Cuthbert’s House in Seahouses, which recent won the accolade of ’Best Pub in Britain.“
However, this accolade will not stop Northumberland Tourism striving for further recognition, and Giles and his team must now rise to the challenge of ensuring the scores keep rising.
“Only when we’re at the very top of VisitEngland’s list will we be happy!” he added.
