Yasser Jan of LMC International talks exports with bdaily

Working for LMC International is an ideal job for Yasser Jan; as it allows him combine his passion for meeting people and sales, with his desire to help North East businesses move into new markets.

“LMC’s primary aim is to promote UK businesses abroad,” he said. “ There are many small and medium sized companies who are more than appropriate for international markets and we aim to act as their initial link in PR and communications.”

Yasser met Leslie Melbourne, CEO of LMC International by chance. Leslie, who has spent most of her career working in the food industry, was looking for someone to help her export live lobsters to Dubai. After hearing about Yasser’s 16-year career in sales, she decided to take him onboard.

“Leslie was looking for someone to help her progress the international exportation side of LMC and she offered me the job,” he recounts.

“I am an accredited sales and marketing executive both nationally and internationally, with specific expertise in the Middle East due to my cultural background, so I was able to offer help overcoming the linguistic and cultural barriers this region presented.”

Although the pair have only worked together for three months, they have already gained strong leads for a client in the UAE, and next month Yasser will accompany them to six meetings with potential clients. He is now trying to encourage the possibilities for their products. “ We are keen to promote LMC to UK businesses who are unaware they could expand into the international market.

“Although we mainly work with food businesses due to Lesley’s background in the food industry, we can take any product or service to market with the right research.”

As a new business themselves, Yasser and Leslie are aware of the difficulties many start-ups and SMEs face when going to market, but Yasser is embracing the challenge this presents:

“There is pressure on to be successful, but its also very exciting time. We are hoping to expand rapidly by taking on more projects, and eventually hope to open another office based in Dubai.

“The North East is a strong region producing excellent products. The Middle Eastern market is looking for quality goods, and we believe that the North East can provide them.”
