This weeks new appointments

Durham Tees Airport have announced the appointment of a new airport director, Steve Gill.

Steve is currently Group Environment and Facilities Director for Peel Airports who own Durham Tees. He has almost 30 years experience in the aviation industry, especially in airport planning and management.

Steve commented, “Having been involved with the Airport in other aspects of its development in recent years, I am now naturally delighted to be able to take the airport forward in this new capacity and to explore all opportunities as we try to develop the business here.

“The Airport is a huge asset for people in the region and I am determined to capitalize on this support, with the team here at the airport and within Peel Airports looking to strengthen and grow the business wherever possible.”

Newcastle based brand consultancy Violet Bick is celebrating the appointment of financial branding consultant Roger Blight.

Roger joins the firm from Nike UK Ltd, where he held the position of financial director. He will now work with the consultancy’s clients to help them build their brand from a financial perspective.

Violet Bick’s managing director commented: “Roger is a strategic hire who adds real heavyweight experience within the team and his appointment is a major coup for the consultancy.

“Access to individuals of this pedigree is so rare, and its great to have him on board.”

The Institute of Directors has appointed a new Director General to succeed Miles Templeman whose seven-year term expires at the end of September.

Simon Walker, former chief executive officer of the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association will take up the position on the 3rdOctober 2011. He brings with him a wealth of experience, after holding senior executive positions at Reuters, British Airways and Brunswick Group.

Commenting on his appointment, he said: “I am delighted to have this opportunity to lead the Institute of Directors. I relish the prospect of representing the business community at a time of great economic challenge and opportunity.

“Our members have a vital role to play in leading and sustaining our country’s economic recovery, and I look forward to building on the good work already done by the IoD.”

Crutes Law firm are celebrating the appointment of a new assistant solicitor.

Katherine Hannah has joined the firm from the Crown Prosecution Service, where she gained specialist advocacy experience. She will join the firm’s specialist Health and Safety unit.

Rod Searl, from Crutes commented: “At Crutes, the quality of our people is one of our main strengths, and I’m sure Katherine will be a real asset to us. She has an impressive track record and we are delighted to welcome her here. I’m sure she has a fantastic career ahead of her.”

Cravens advertising are expanding its team with the recruitment of a new copywriter.

Marcus Culloty joins the firm from the Newhaven Advertising Agency, Edinburgh. It is hoped that he will bring a fresh injection of talent and expertise to the team.

Of his new appointment, Marcus said: “Just as the Angel of the North has opened her arms out wide and welcomed me, so too has Cravens.

“And right now this region is really buzzing with creativity so I couldn’t be more excited about the move and what the future holds with my new agency’.

AYO Media in Tyneside have take on two new members of staff to support the companies continued expansion.

Barry Vallely and Mark Kennedy will take up the positions of business development manager and applications developer respectively and will help to support some of the clients existing work as well as the introduction of several of the firms newest clients.

Rob Mathieson managing director at AYO Media said: “We are delighted that Barry and Mark have joined our team as they are exceptional additions to support the business in this sharp growth period.”
