Canadian hotel group heads to Tyneside
The Canadian owned Sandman Hotel Group will enter the UK with the opening of a 175-bedroom hotel in Newcastle next month.
Situated in the former Scottish and Newcastle brewery site at Gallowgate, the four-star Sandman Signature hotel Newcastle will incorporate an on-site pub, the Shark Club Gastro Lounge, and a number of self-catering suites.
The Newcastle hotel marks the company’s first venture outside of Canada.
The Shark Club will open on the ground floor of the new four star, multi-million pound Sandman Signature Hotel, opposite St James’ Park.
The bar recruited over 150 staff in July and the new team is due to start an intensive training programme later this week.
Sixteen trainers from Shark Clubs across Western Canada flew over to the UK on Wednesday August 24 to host the specially developed training sessions.
Mark Davies, executive general manager of Shark Club, said: “Shark Club will showcase the very best in Canadian hospitality and our newly recruited staff will learn from the best.
“We’re hoping that our unrivalled customer service will prove popular with the people of the North East and help Shark Club to really make its mark within the region.”
