Linked in Law firm tweets to success

Lawyers at Ward Hadaway are celebrating after the firm was named as one of the top social media users in the UK legal industry.

The unusual accolade awarded by the Social Media Legal Hot 100 considered how firms engaged with users on a variety of social media platforms, taking audience, reach and influence into account.

Several areas within the firm have their own dedicated social media outlets, including the employment team, and the newly created creative industries department.

Laura Harper, Partner and Head of Creative Industries at Ward Hadaway, said: “Since many of our clients use Twitter to swap information and ideas and make connections and contacts, it was a logical step for us to set up our own Twitter feed.

“We’ve been using it since the start of this year and have found it to be a really useful communication tool in addition to all our other traditional marketing methods which we use to let people know what services we provide and how we can help them.

The firm made the move in an attempt to reach out to current and potential clients, and post regular updates on topical issues and recent legal decisions.

Using social media has also helped Paul Scope, partner in the employment team at the firm to understand the HR issues facing many businesses.

He added: “The Employment team have put a lot of effort into establishing the group and to building it up and that work is starting to bear fruit.

“We have always said that as a team, we talk the language of our clients and give them practical, commercial pointers and the LinkedIn group gives us the ideal way to prove that.”

Managing partner Jamie Martin added: “There is a perception that the legal sector can be a bit conservative when it comes to adopting and using new technology.

“However, we believe that this demonstrates our commitment to being a progressive, forward-thinking firm and are pleased that this has been recognised in a national survey.”
