Member News: Transforming outgrown baby clothes into treasured decorations

Longbenton-based company Nola Gifts has launched a new service, which takes beloved baby clothes that are now too small, and creates pretty cushions and rows of flags – which can be displayed and enjoyed everyday.

It’s heartbreaking when a favourite outfit becomes too small for your little one – and it’s such a shame to hide it in an attic or give it away. This personal service creates another beautiful item from these sentimental pieces, perfect for a dressing table or bedroom.

The finished products include clothing details such as collars, buttons and motifs – keeping the ‘feel’ of the outfit, whilst creating a completely new keepsake.

Nola Gifts also sells personalised bunting (rows of fabric flags) made to order, with names, plus matching nappy-bag holders and cushions.

The bespoke bunting makes ideal gifts for new babies, Christenings, birthdays, weddings, parties and looks just the thing on a kitchen dresser.

Personalised bunting starts at £16 for six flags, baby clothes bunting starts at £36 for six flags and cushions start at £30. Gift vouchers are also possible.

Becoming well known in the region, Nola Gifts launched in April this year after it’s founder Aoife Forbes, 34, was made redundant from regional development agency One North East.

Aoife (pronounced Eefa) made the decision to turn her hobby and passion of sewing into a small business, taking inspiration from the many success stories she learnt of within her role at ONE as Regional Image PR Manager.

“Through working on the ‘Passionate People. Passionate Places’ campaign – promoting business and enterprise in our region – I was constantly impressed by the stories of tenacity and ambition I encountered daily”, said Aoife.

“It was clear to me the North East is a great place to not only start a business, but also to receive encouragement, support and ultimately find success.

“And having a toddler of my own gives me even more inspiration for handmade accessories and gifts to add to my ever-expanding product range”, she added.
