Proud to sponsor Sun FM’s Youth Worker of the Year
Earlier in October the North East BIC was proud to support Sun FM’s Local Heroes awards, which celebrated special people from across Wearside who have gone the extra mile in a range of categories, including Nurse of the Year, Child of Inspiration and Parent / Guardian of the Year.
As an organisation which aims to support and help in the development of our local communities, it is of paramount importance that the BIC lends its support to events such as these, which do a great deal of good in rewarding everyday people for the extraordinary things that they do.
The award that the BIC supported was Youth Worker of the Year, which was presented to respected local figure Dave Murray. Dave’s outstanding work with youth in Sunderland has made a real difference over decades, in particular the music workshops that he developed at Hendon Young People’s Project in the 1990s: They reached out directly to the young people who went on to form Successful bands The Futureheads and Field Music, putting Sunderland on the national stage and contributing significantly to the region’s cultural economy.
This illustrates the rich tapestry of our working community, and the integral role that the local heroes such as Dave play in underpinning local developments.
