Tory Donor calls for end to unfair dismissal
A leaked government report is calling for unproductive workers to lose their right to claim unfair dismissal.
The aim of the legislation would enable more capable people to replace those who had been sacked to boost economic growth, according to the BBC.
While Downing Street says a change would be unlikely, current rules are allowing underperforming workers to stay in their position, as they are impossible to sack.
The report, which has yet to be made public – was written by Adrian Beecroft, a Conservative Party donor, in response to government plans to reform unemployment laws,
The qualifying period for unfair dismissal will be lengthened to 2 years from April 2011, but Mr Beecrofts’ report goes even further calling for an end to unfair dismissal altogether.
An unnamed Liberal Democrat minister believes that such a move could undermine consumer confidence by creating large scale job insecurity, but Downing Street have countered this claim.
