HC-One take full control of Southern Cross Care Homes

From next week HC-One will take over the running of a third of the ill fortuned Southern Cross care homes.

The final stages of the transition have taken place, and as of 1 November 2011, HC-One will begin to provide care for over 10,000 residents.

HC-One was formed by landlord company NHP and social care turnaround experts Court Cavendish, who joined forces to rescue the care home group.

14,637 members of staff from Southern Cross will transfer over to HC-One, and the company are now looking to recruit an additional 257 staff at care homes around the UK, including at the central support centre in Darlington.

HC-One CEO, David Spruzen, commented: “The last few months have undoubtedly been a worrying time for many, which is why we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure continuity of care for all our residents and to enable them to have a safe, happy and fulfilling life.”

HC-One have also managed to secure several new experienced non-executive board members including Sir William Wells, former chair of the NHS appointments commission and Anne Williams CBE, who will bring 30 years of social care experience with her.

An independent dedicated whistle blowing telephone line has also been established. £30 million in extra funding will be made immediately available, and HC-One have also secured longer term financial and operational flexibility through the ownership of the properties being within the same legal ownership group.
