Employers must boost employee confidence to keep hold of high fliers.
North East employers run the risk of looking their top employees if they ignore the culture and management issues in the workplace.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development quarterly employee Outlook survey showed that North East employees are some of the most distrustful in the country, with -25% having no trust in their management team.
Distrustful employees were also found to be among the 22% looking for a new employer, along with those looking for a higher salary, more job satisfaction and less stress.
Claire McCartney, resourcing and talent adviser at CIPD commented: “With many organisations struggling to compete and survive, the issue of organisation culture and values can take a back seat.
“Some employers may also feel they don’t have to work as ahrd to keep their people because there are fewer opportunities in the labour market that will allow employees to jump ship.”
47% of employees who don’t trust their senior management are currently looking for a new job, compared to 8% who trust their senior leaders. People who face excessive daily pressure at work were also found to be twice as likely to be looking for a job.
Claire added: “ Vacancies always exist for motivated and skilled staff and employers risk losing their most valued employees – those most able to compete in a tough labour market.
“Trust forms a key part of the employment relationship, and if employees feel there is a gap between what directors say and do, or that there is a lack of transparency or fairness in terms of how people are recognised and rewarded, there are likely to feel disenchanted.”
