Energy firm remains positive despite cuts to subsidies

A Manchester based energy consultancy is remaining positive in the face of government backtracking on solar panel feed-in tariffs.

While many installation and consultancy businesses may be concerned following the news, Energy Gain UK Ltd have welcomed the proposals.

As payments will be slashed for all panels fitted after December 12, 2011, the firm believe the manoeuvre is a positive one.

Directors at Energy Gain said: “Although the industry has been sent into a tailspin over this, we know that responsible businesses throughout the supply chain will respond effectively and allow us to provide attractive propositions to customers.

“Structures and prices will be re-addressed by companies with a serious interest in the renewable energy market and consumers will benefit from the exit of weaker businesses and those investors with no interest in the UK’s energy diversification and carbon reduction strategies.”

Feed-in tariffs were introduced last year, with the aim of generating income for those who installed solar panels.

Subsidies have now been slashed for new sign-ups, as ministers say it it necessary to make smaller scale renewable schemes cost effective.

The news of the cuts has largely been met with dismay by renewable energy firms, who warn it will damage growth and result in job losses.
