Green activities of Edenred employees receive national recognition

Edenred’s HR engagement policy of encouraging its employee’s to take up environmentally friendly voluntary activities and behaviour has achieved national recognition. The company has won a Green Apple Award for its environmental events.

With the encouragement and support of the company, Edenred’s staff have undertaken regular activities across the country since 2007. These include planting more than 300 saplings and trees at various public sites and schools; river cleaning; removing graffiti, creating a wildflower meadow at a school and even assisting in the creation of an edible playground at a school.

The accolade was achieved in the Commerce and Industry category and was awarded in recognition of the aims, achievements and the positive impact of the environmental activities that Edenred’s employees have achieved over the last four years.

Patrick Langlois, managing director at Edenred, comments:

“The Green Apple award recognises Edenred’s continued commitment to the environment, and the positive, hands-on action of our employees. Staff across our three sites have taken part in up to four environmental activities a year since our first event in 2007.

“We have worked with different charities to help organise these events including Thames21, Trees for Cites, The International Tree Foundation and The London Wildlife Trust.

“It is a great way to help the environment but also helps creates good working relationships between different departments and all levels of staff.”

The bronze award and certificate were presented by former Dragon’s Den winner, Chris Hopkins, during a carbon-neutral ceremony at the House of Commons on the 14th November 2011. To be truly environmentally friendly, the certificate is made from 100% recycled paper and elephant dung!

The Green Apple competition is run by The Green Organisation, an independent environment group dedicated to promoting the positive side of environmental endeavours by recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.

Previous winners include BBC, Severn Trent, Carlsberg, the Environment Agency, Coca Cola, Centrica and E-On.
