Software developer makes moves to develop company

A move in premises caused a long established North East software developer to look at their business afresh and to revaluate the aims and objectives of their company. In considering how they might improve as an organisation and grow the business still further they realised they lacked the capability to do this alone and so approached NBSL to assist.

Although the company were well established as software developers within certain specialised sectors across the UK and knew what they wanted to achieve, they needed guidance from NBSL to implement a programme that would improve team motivation and communication and also capture this in a new performance management process.

NBSL operate the North East Leadership and Management Advisory Service programme across the North East of England and so supported the company to apply for a grant under the scheme which allows eligible organisations to apply for up to £1,000 towards the cost of a consultant to assist them in developing strong leaders and competitive companies.

An appropriate consultant was identified to work with the company and a programme of coaching and development was proposed to give the managing director the ability to roll out the new programme throughout the organisation.

The programme would allow the company to:

- Understand team dynamics

- Identify key team members who could assist as a ‘bridge’ of communication into the work force

- Improve morale and motivation

- Improve communication throughout the organisation

- Establish performance measures for individuals, teams and the organisation as a whole

- Implement measurable goals and objectives for all staff

- Evaluate the performance measures in the future and ensure they remain appropriate

The intervention has had a very positive effect on all the company’s staff. A new communications strategy has been implemented which informs all staff of new contracts won, and this has led to increased motivation and productivity and potential new contracts in two new countries.

The assistance received from NBSL has led to measurable outcomes in terms of business growth and success and the company now understands the benefits of bringing in external services in order to help them develop their own organisation so that it may succeed and grow further in future.

NBSL still has limited funding available to support businesses, so if you would like to benefit from grant funding of up to £1,000 towards the cost of developing a strategy for your business, and get your business on the road to growth, contact NBSL now on 01670 813322 or apply online at www.nbsl.org.uk
