Olympic contract winners share their success

Local businesses who have successfully procured Olympic related contracts will share their stories with others looking to benefit from the London 2012 Games, at an event on Wednesday, December 7.

At the launch of the Team Tomorrow Events; FaulknerBrowns Architects, Baynes Travel and BizVision will explain their successes in a bid to encourage other North East business to do the same.

The events, which are being run between December 2011 and March 2012 will also provide information about Olympic and Paralympic Business and Legacy Opportunities.

Mike Hawkins, North East 2012 Regional Business Lead said: “Whilst much of the Olympic Park in London is now nearing completion, with North East companies having already won over £100 million worth of business related to the Games, we would have liked to have won more of the business for companies here in the region, particularly during these challenging times.

“These interactive events are going to bring businesses together to understand what is still available, what needs to be done, particularly as the Games have so far raised the bar for both procurers and suppliers and give tips on how to get over that bar.”

The event has been organised by NewcastleGateshead Initiative in partnership with One North East, who have appointed Teesside-based events company Cynergy to deliver the sessions.

The events will also consider the legacy opportunities which will follow the Games, including the removal of temporary facilities on the Olympic Park, the creation of the Queen Elizabeth II Park and the decade of sporting events which will bring opportunities in their own right.

Mr Hawkins is also determined to dispel the myth that Olympic related contracts are closed, and hopes the events will prove that opportunities are just about the emerge.

He added: “I’m determined to see these new events making an even greater impact and providing a legacy in themselves, to help companies to go on and win future business contracts - that is why we need North East businesses to back them.

“The opportunities are real and available to all, and companies in all sectors and of any size can feed into the supply chain somewhere and win new business - but you’ve got to be in it, to win it.”

Tickets to the events are free, and full details can be found at www.teamtomorrow.co.uk.
