SURGO Celebrate double contract win

SURGO Construction are celebrating, after they were awarded an £1.8 million contract to expand part of Durham University’s Queen’s Campus in Stockton

The project further cements the construction firm’s relationship with the University, after they recently completed work on the Queen’s Campus sports centre in 2010, alongside a number of other projects.

The new building will support research into medicine, health and the well being of people and places, adding to existing laboratories, offices and staff accommodation. SURGO is the main contractor for the project, which is due to be completed in June 2012.

SURGO have another reason to celebrate, as the firm have also recently won a £2.1 million contract to extend and refurbish St Thomas More RC School in Blaydon.

Speaking of SURGO’s work on the Wolfson Research Institute and the latest contract win at
the St Thomas More RC School, Jeff Alexander, director said: “We are delighted to be working for Durham University again, enhancing its first class facilities in Stockton. Our site teams have work well underway and are on track with the 45- week detailed build programme.

“With regard to win further projects in the secondary education sector, our appointment
at the St Thomas More School is a clear reflection of our ability to continue to secure work
representative of our core business.

“Completion of this scheme is due in the summer of 2012.”

SURGO have also been named as Durham County Council’s preferred contractor to carry out work on two other schools in the county, which will be announced at a later date.
