Young apprentices celebrated at awards night
Young apprentices were honoured this week at Nordic Pioneer’s first awards ceremony, hosted by Darlington College.
Students were brought together from across the North East and other areas of the UK, including the North West and Midlands to celebrate their success on Nordic’s various training programmes.
Apprentice of the Year Award went to Owen Corfield, from Middlesbrough, who said: “I’m really proud to have won both of these awards. It’s brilliant to be recognised for all of my hard work and has given me much more confidence for my future.”
Awards for Team Leaders of the Year went to George Elcoate and George Kime, while Dale Frew and Stephanie Mobberley picked up Most Improved Apprentice Awards.
Nordic used their prize winnings from the Eric Hill Award to fund there ceremony, which saw winners presented with scrolls and vouchers.
The evening intended to celebrate apprentices’ work in their various neighbourhoods and communities.
Nordic’s CEO Peter Robinson presented each winner with their award, and said: “At a time when youth unemployment is sky high and universities are becoming more and more expensive, apprenticeships offer talented and hard working individuals a route into employment and it’s fantastic that those who have excelled on our specialist courses have been recognised and rewarded in this way.”
Tim Grant, principal and chief executive of Darlington College, said: “It was a privilege to host Nordic Pioneer’s awards ceremony on our premises.
“Nordic is a great company to work with and our partnership is innovative and inspiring.
“We’re very proud of the work that our apprentices do in and around Darlington and the difference they make to the communities which we serve.”
Other winners included Karl McIvor, who secured a Special Recognition for Hard Work; Scott Day who received Most Enthusiastic Apprentice Award; and Best Team went to Friends of the Earth members Colin Watson, Joe Hewitt, Kris Duncan, Sam Edkins and Anthony Watt.
