Artist heightens Deloitte’s green credentials

Deloitte have further cemented their commitment to both the environment and artistic excellence as they finally unveiled a new sculpture at their Newcastle office.

Designed by Kimberly Gaiger, a Fine Art graduate from Northumbria, the new installation consists of several silhouetted trees made from recycling paper sprouting from the bottom of an every day light bulb base and is designed to represent two contrasting types of energy.

The design was chosen from a number of entries from Northumbria University, and was declared the winner after judges decided that the design perfectly reflected Deloitte’s green agenda.

Paul Feechan, Office Senior Partner at Deloitte Newcastle said: “Kimberley’s design captured Deloitte’s commitment to sustainability and work to support the growth of the renewable energy sector.

“Our business has deep roots in the North East and it is rewarding to support the region’s creative sector in this way. Thanks to our relationship with Northumbria University we have been able to provide an opportunity for an aspiring young artist to showcase her talent.”

Artist Kimberly Gaiger was delighted when her design was chosen, especially as the green brief for the project is an issue particlularly close to her heart.

She commented: I was particularly keen to reflect Deloitte’s focus on recycling and making their offices more environmentally friendly. I wanted to embed this into my project.

“I want to initiate change. I am passionate for people to consider more renewable sources of energy and influence recycling. The experience has been daunting but exciting.”

Deloitte are committed to the green agenda, and are currently situated on an energy efficient office on Newcastle’s Quayside.
