Risk in vogue despite ongoing Greek debt negotiations
In the two years since Gary Boon co-founded up Shout Digital, the firm certainly has had a lot to shout about.
As well as being named as the North East Digital Agency of the Year, the firm has also been ranked by the Recommended Agency Register and industry magazine The Drum. Proud of these achievements he may be, but it seems that Gary’s biggest personal achievement is actually the creation of North East jobs.
“In the past two years we have grown from a team of just three to 20 people, and I am very proud that I have been able to create jobs for the region.” Managing Director Gary explains.
“The high quality service we deliver ultimately comes from the team, who have established a strong culture and drive to succeed.”
The firm has a number of high profile international lifestyle and corporate brands on its’ books, and in 2012 will exceed a £1 million turnover - representing a 400% annual increase. However, Gary refuses to take credit for Shout’s exponential growth, instead choosing to credit his team for their strong design ability.
“We aim to deliver a quality, customer focused service as a whole team, and because we have some expert people here we can approach projects with a wealth of knowledge.” He continues. “The company’s’ strong growth trend is a testament to the team, and it is them who deserve the awards and notice - I believe that they are part of Shout, rather than employed by Shout, as they all have something really positive to add.”
In light of these positive growth figures, it would be easy for Gary to rest on his laurels. However, he is now looking towards London where he believes the firm can offer real value for money.
He said: “The growth of Shout Digital is indicative of a North East digital sector which is
challenging the more established agencies in London.
“We are now looking to establish a permanent sales office in London. However, we will always be firmly based in the North East, and all service delivery will come from up here.
“Strategically, this works well as we can provide competitive prices to London clients, whilst also building jobs in the North East.”
Looking forward, Gary now plans to implement an aggressive growth strategy, along with a number of exciting projects in the pipeline. Nonetheless, he still remains cautious.
“The greatest challenge is ensuring that we get the right speed of growth – and not grow too big, too quickly. By creating a solid foundation, we can create a sustainable platform to expand.
“It’s very important to be realistic. In terms of financial management the economy is nowhere near where it was, and while there are still lots of opportunities to grow, its important to stay within your remit.”
As the North East digital industry continues to flourish, it is clear that Gary has plans to grow with it - creating even more opportunities for individuals in the North East.
“My other aim for the next year is to create more jobs and hire new people.” he concludes. “There is alot of great talent in the region, both through other agencies and strong universities, so there is much to tap into.”
