Business Leaders must ‘Get Mentoring’

The Government is calling on business people from across the UK to share their expertise with others through a new scheme to help entrepreneurs fulfil their potential.

Get Mentoring has already signed up over 3000 people, with the aim of recruiting a total of 15,00 new mentors.

The project has been backed by a number of business organisations, including the Institute of Directors, the Federation of Small Businesses, the Forum of Private Business and the National Enterprise Network.

it will be led by the Small Firms Development Initiative Limited, the UK’s sector skills body for enterprise.

The Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk believes that the training, which will be offered to every mentor, will create an effective mechanism to help aspiring entrepreneurs get help and support to succeed.

He commented: “Having worked as a mentor I know how rewarding it can be to use your business experience and help someone who is eager to learn.

“I would encourage business people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in mentoring as it really can help to give a new or growing business a boost in their development.”

Get Mentoring is part of the wider Business in You campaign, which helps to highlight support for start-ups and growing businesses. Tim Whitehall is the managing director od a construction consulting firm in Chester and has recent completed the training.

He added: “I’ve always thought about mentoring because I think real experience of making difficult decisions in challenging situations is invaluable to another business owner and I was keen to share my knowledge.

“When I spotted the Get Mentoring scheme I instantly knew it was something I wanted to get involved in.”
