James Ramsbotham to give North East economy update

Newcastle University Business School is to play host to a special event focusing on the North East economy offering an exclusive chance to hear from the Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce. Local business expert James Ramsbotham, will be sharing his views on the local economy and updating attendees on what’s going on in the region right now.

The free North East Economy ‘Updates’ event, which takes place on Tuesday 14 February at 6:30pm, is open to Newcastle University Business School community, including students, graduates, staff and friends of the School.

Commenting ahead of the event James said: “As the UK struggles to grow its economy, the North East is playing its full part in creating wealth. With record exports and world class manufacturing no other region is doing more. Do our national politicians and journalists recognise this contribution?”

This eagerly anticipated event, run in collaboration with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Graduates’ society (North of England) branch, looks set to be as informative as the last.

In a previous event, hosted by the branch in 2009, James also presented on the state of the local economy. He pointed out then that the most recent statistics had revealed that our regional economy was the fastest growing in the U.K. 1.25 million were in work (more than ever recorded), the North was one of the few net exporting regions and there was a notable positive balance of trade.

Given the turbulence experienced by the global economy over the last few years, the region eagerly awaits this update.

In 2006 James Ramsbotham, after senior roles with Barclays plc and the Esh Group, was appointed Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce, an organisation which champions business in the whole of our Region. James has recently been appointed Chair of the Learning and Skills Council of the North East. His training included management courses at INSEAD and Harvard Business Schools.

Not only will this event provide the opportunity to hear from a truly engaging speaker but also the opportunity to network with students, graduates and regional business people alike.
