Ale and Arty Beer Festival 2012 - Stockton Arc. Friday and Saturday. Tickets: £1 11am-5pm; £4.50 6.30-11pm.

CAMRA returns to Stockton Arts Centre for Ale & Arty 2012, with over 80 fine ales, ciders and perrys to satisfy discerning booze lovers. Organisers have assured festival goers they will not be short of beer, with even more barrels on order from last year successful event. Evening entertainment comes in the form of King Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, an exciting R&B outfit; comedy from Paul Tonkinson and Tom Allen; and classic pop-reggae band Musical Youth.

Exhibitions

Leopard - South Shields Customs House. Saturday February 25 - ongoing. Free admission.

This theatrical display documents the life and work of one of the country’s leading couture costume designers, Paul Shrief. The ‘enfant terrible’ of the fashion world in the 1980s, Ashington-born Shriek is now a leading costume designer and creator for opera and ballet companies. Alongside Leopard, the Customs House is running a pantomime exhibition which will feature many of the dazzling costumes produced for the likes of Puss in Boots and Aladdin.

Cinema

The Artist - Tyneside Cinema, Newcastle. Sunday February 26, 3.30pm. Tickets: £8; £6.95 conc.

A good chance to catch this ‘must-see’ film of the awards season. Set in 1920s Hollywood, The Artist gives revival to the silent movie in a tale which sees heartthrob George Valentin, played by Jean Dujardin, gradually fall from stardom, as his young love rises to fame.

Comedy

Nick Revell, John Ross, Dan Bland and Jonny Pelham - The Stand, Newcastle. Saturday February 25, 7pm. Tickets: £15.

Satirist and commentator on society and politics, Nick Revell arrives in Newcastle to offer his brilliant observations and sharp style. John Ross has had a wide ranging career that has seen him headline all across Scotland, with his laid back style and surrealist world view. Leeds based comic, Dan Bland brings a touch of darkness to the comedy circuit.

Food and Drink

Tasting Evening - The Black Horse, Beamish. Friday February 24, 7pm. Tickets: £20.

A special evening of wine and cheese tasting with Pierre Lacroix of Berkmann Wine Cellars, a renowned supplier of wines.
