TNT Post UK opens Vehicle Maintenance Unit in

TNT Post, Britain’s largest private postal operator, has opened a Vehicle Maintenance Unit (VMU) at its 120,000 sq ft depot in Rugby. The VMU allows TNT Post to undertake its own maintenance and repairs of its 150 fleet of trailers as well as undertake the legal compliance inspections each vehicle has to undertake every ten weeks.

The four bay workshop will enable the company to offer its services to businesses within a 25 mile radius of the deport that require maintenance of trucks over 3.5 tonne. It has already secured contracts totalling 350 vehicles. TNT Post will target potential customers that have large fleets as well as those with one or two vehicles including logistics and leasing companies.

The commercial vehicle workshop was onsite when the company moved into Rugby last year. It has been brought back to life so that the company can reduce its vehicle maintenance costs as well as generate new income by targeting companies that want to use the facility.

The VMU Has created new roles for local skilled workers who were previously employed by the local council. As demand for the service grows, the company expects to grow the workforce employed on site.

Following the opening of the facility, Nick Wells, CEO TNT Post said:

“TNT Post is recognised for its commitment to quality, innovation and value for money in everything we do. We are an entrepreneurial company and the Rugby VMU is a good example of this. We are able to reduce our own costs by bringing servicing in-house and as well as offer a cost effective service to local businesses that wish to use the service.”
